Why is preventive dentistry important?

Preventive dentistry is all about maintaining a healthy smile for your child. Children with healthy mouths chew more easily and gain more nutrients from the foods they eat. They learn to speak more quickly and clearly. They have a better chance of good general health, because disease in the mouth can endanger the rest of the body. A healthy mouth is more attractive, giving children confidence in their appearance. Finally, preventive dentistry means less extensive and less expensive treatment for your child.

The Vine Kids Dental team focuses on preventive dentistry. Through routine care, we seek to help children maintain excellent quality oral health as they grow. Through education, we seek to equip the parents and children with the knowledge they need to develop healthy brushing and flossing habits—habits that could lead to a lifetime of excellent health.

Our preventive dental services include:

Dental Cleanings and Exams

Let’s face it, children aren’t always the most thorough when it comes to brushing and flossing. As a result, young patients are often more vulnerable to dental problems like tooth decay and plaque buildup. That’s why it’s so important for your son or daughter to see a dentist at least twice a year.

During routine exams, a registered dental assistant will clean and polish your son or daughter’s teeth, removing bacteria, plaque, and leftover food debris in the process. Then Dr. Mina will inspect each of your child’s teeth and his or her gums, assessing for any signs of decay, inflammation, or other common dental concerns. Dr. Mina's extensive training has also equipped her with the ability to recognize and treat many growth and development issues at an early stage rather than waiting for more severe problems down the road.  She may also recommend x-rays, an oral cancer screening, or a further periodontal inspection depending on the results of the exam.

Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatments

Do you want to know if either of these services is right for your little one? Don’t hesitate to ask during your family’s next visit.

Mouth Guards

If your child plays sports or struggles with teeth grinding, our pediatric dental office would be happy to create a custom-made mouth guard for him or her. An athletic mouth guard will protect your child's smile while he or she is active.
